What Justifies An Acura Over A Honda

Now we haven't had any new articles since June 26 but we are back with many topics and comparisons in mind.

Lets get this started. Our topic today is for you consumers out there who are in the market for economy class vehicles.

Autospies.com recently posted the comparison between the Camry and the latest redesign for Honda's Accord Sedan/Coupe. We looked at the interior and the quality of interior for a high-end Honda(Accord lineup) and the Acura vehicles out in the market today. We can't find a strikingly different interior feel between the Honda Accord and the Acura TL.

Now this is a topic you guys can think about and debate about because seriously if you are getting the same type of interior and same comfort for thousands less then why even consider Acura? For the name? for the image? sure Acura is a well respected brand for making decent luxury cars that aren't too shabby on the reliability end of things.

Would you say they are glorified Honda's? In essence they are but we'll leave that to you to judge.

Let's face the truth, Acura's are warmed over Honda's just like Infinity's are warmed over Nissan's and a Lexus is just another Toyota. Most of the parts for the "luxury" cars come from the same generic parts bin as their lessor counterparts.

That is why the ONLY real luxury automobiles are Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Always has been and always will be.

Benzo & Bimmer... 'only' real luxury cars???

have you glanced at the reliability records of german cars? pathetic especially when you're paying a premium for so-called high-end cars.

german cars: wonderful performance, oh-so lousy electronics. but hey, the topic is luxury, NOT performance.

when it comes to reliability, the german cars should be compared to toyota and honda, NOT lexus and acura.

and they STILL fall short in comparison.

reliability is considered by some as an ESSENTIAL part of luxury. by this standard, there ARE no german luxury cars.

when a 2006 mb ML500 has MORE PROBLEMS than a 1998 lexus LS400, that's a sad commentary on german reliability.

even entry level TOYOTAs, to say nothing of Lexi, can best so called "german reliability."

Back to the point of this thread...

When you buy an Acura, you receive a Honda platform but with unique styling, greater horsepower, more technology and better warranty and aftersales support. That's not saying that Honda is bad, just that there is some significant differences between the cars.

If you argue that this is not enough or that no one else does this the fact us EVERY manufacturer shards componants among multiple lines. Ever take a hard look inside a Lamborghini? The interior lighting is from an A4, the radio from an A6 and the window switches from any number of Audi's. Cadillacs share parts with Chevys. Mercedes shared parts with Chrysler. BMW and Mini share parts. As long as they are the right parts and it something that works, why reinvent the wheel?

Look to see Acura as a major competitor in two years. Honda / Acura will not be sharing parts starting with the 2009 TL, which will be a true built by Acura car. Since All Acuras are Hondas right now, also see a replacement for all by 2011. None will be using the Honda platform as a base.
